What it is for

Tool-free assembly sounds like a convenience feature until a monitor has to come down twice a year, at which point it becomes the reason the arm gets used at all. This one takes screens from 13 to 34 inches up to 19.8 lbs and goes together with hand-tightened joints, so a screen can be dismounted for a house move or a desk swap without hunting for the hex key that came in the box.

Check before you order. Toolless clamps need re-checking. Give the desk clamp a firm hand-tighten again after the first week, because a joint tightened without a lever settles slightly once it has carried a load overnight.

What assembly actually means

Genuinely toolless for the arm itself; the VESA plate on the back of the monitor still uses the screws that came with the screen. Expect ten minutes for a first install and about two for every one after that, which is the point of the design.
