A 48 inch top holds two monitors only if nothing else needs to be on the desk. At 55.1 by 27.6 inches this is the size where a dual-screen setup still leaves a working strip in front of the keyboard, which is the difference between a desk that works and one that gets tidied every evening. The extra 4 inches of depth also lets a 27 inch screen sit far enough back to be read comfortably.
Check before you order. Load rating stays at 176 lbs on this size even though the top is bigger. That is ample for two monitors and a tower, but it is not a workbench rating, so heavy shop equipment belongs on the 220 lb models instead.
What assembly actually means
The wider top ships as a single piece rather than two halves, so it is heavier to manoeuvre than the 48 inch version and genuinely wants two people for the flip. Everything else is the same: pre-drilled holes, hex key, cable to the controller. Clear a floor area larger than the desk itself before starting.
What it changes
- Depth of 27.6 inches puts a large monitor at arm length without pushing the keyboard to the edge, which is the single most common ergonomic failure on a shallow desk.
- The width takes two 24 inch screens side by side with space between them, so a monitor arm does not have to force them into contact.
- The same column and the same four presets as the smaller models, so nothing about the controls changes if a household ends up with both sizes.
