What it is for
Every electric desk in this range stops at 28.35 inches, which is a comfortable seated height for someone around five foot eight and too tall for a lot of people. A footrest is the cheapest correct fix: rather than perching, the chair goes up to put the elbows right and the feet get a surface at the height they need. Three settings and a tilting platform cover the usual range.
Check before you order. A footrest is the fix for a desk that is too tall, not for a chair that is wrong. If the seat itself is too high or too deep, the footrest will make the symptoms milder without addressing the cause.
What assembly actually means
No assembly beyond taking it out of the box. Setting it up properly takes longer than unpacking it: raise the chair until the forearms are level with the desk, then set the footrest so the thighs are supported and the knees sit at roughly a right angle. That order matters, because the chair sets the elbow and the footrest sets the knee.
What it changes
- A tilting surface lets the ankle move through the day rather than being held at one fixed angle, which is what causes the aching that a flat block does not fix.
- Three fixed heights are enough for one person to find a setting and enough for two people to share a desk without adjusting anything.
